I revisited an Indian takeaway and remembered why this is still the best I’ve ever reviewed – and it’s in West Yorkshire

During lockdown, I reviewed an Indian takeaway that had been struggling due to lockdown. Abdul’s in Pontefract and Wakefield had been recommended to me.

After my review, I got a call from Abdul himself to thank me for helping to save his business. I was touched because as ever, I was just giving my honest opinion. Everything was cooked fresh and to perfection.  The big test, however, was his naan bread, as I’m a naan man.

Abdul’s was the best I’ve ever had, fluffy with a slight crisp.

Ever since I’ve been a regular. I love his kebabs, chicken tikka and butter chicken. I’ve also got to know Abdul as he does so much for the local community.

He even delivered my favourite takeaway to me while I was in hospital after having a stroke.

I was a bit nervous about returning with my table and chair to review Abdul’s for my Danny Vs Food channel because as ever I had to give my honest opinion.

Plus I was trying two dishes I’d never had before – a mixed grill and a mixed kebab on a naan which came with a salad box.

I normally love his Tak Tak kebab which is a chicken and lamb kebab stir fried in spices

My column in Yorkshire Evening Post

The mixed kebab was full of colour, and the mixed grill was huge with a crispy curry spring roll on top.

I first reviewed Abdul’s several years ago on Rate My Takeaway

It was a real meat feast – and a top marks from me.
